Microsimulation Modeling Using Stata for Tax, Pension, and Health Care Policies
The course will alternate theoretical discussions with hands-on lab sessions using the Stata software.
Course objective:
- Stata
- Building and using microsimulation models for personal income tax
- Building and using microsimulation models for pensions
- Building and using microsimulation models for health care and social benefits
- How to use survey and administrative data
- How to link microsimulation to macro or CGE models
- How to calibrate the model
- Static and dynamic microsimulation models
- Scenario analysis using microsimulation models
Methodology:
The course uses a practical and very intensive approach to microsimulation modeling. The participants will build several microsimulation models step-by-step with guidance from the instructors: from small to large scale and from simple to complex structure. The participants will acquire extensive practical hands-on experience in building a complex, realistic microsimulation model. This will allow them to implement the first version of their own microsimulation model using Stata codes and the EcoMod framework from the course.
